Castelluccio built his road to victory gradually over the four days of play. He faced competition from some of Europe’s most proficient players as well as from other, less experienced but just as fierce players to eventually scoop the title.

The latest WPT National Brussels festival was hosted by Grand Casino Brussels Viage in Belgium’s capital city. The €1,200 Main Event saw a total of 489 entries contending for the lion’s share of the prize pool and the tournament trophy.

It was Castelluccio to emerge as the winner, making his way first to the official nine-handed final table and eventually to the title. Speaking of the final table, it boasted international presence with players from Italy, France, Belgium, the UK, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, and the Czech Republic. Greece’s Dimitrios Kalaroutis was Castelluccio’s final opponent. Although he failed survive through heads-up match, he received not a bad consolation prize of €73,515 for finishing runner-up in the tournament.

Castelluccio is a well-known name on the Italian and European poker scene. Including last night’s victory, he now has more than $2 million in live tournament winnings, which places him in top 10 of his homeland’s most profitable players. And although €105,000 in prize money is a good payout, it is far from being his career best.

In 2012, the player finished 4th in the EPT Season 8 Grand Final €10,600 Main Event to scoop his largest-ever cash of €400,000. Over the course of his career, Castelluccio has also been an active participant in various Italian Poker Tour events and has won some of them.

The WPT National tour is known for its travelling muscle and its constant quest for exotic and exciting poker destinations. South Korea will be the next such destination to be visited by the popular live tournament series. The next WPT National festival will be hosted by Paradise Casino at Jeju Grand from March 16 through March 21.
