Another German player just topped another high roller tournament. Dietrich Fast bested the field of the HK$800,000 Super High Roller or Event #12 on the schedule of the ongoing PokerStars-sponsored Asia Championship of Poker. The player captured the amount of HK$16,690,000 (approximately $2,138,770) for his triumph over a field of a number of seasoned high rollers.

Here it is also important to note that Fast faced one particularly seasoned high roller heads-up. The player battled against Steve O’Dwyer, who holds multiple titles from different high roller tournaments.

The ACOP Super High Roller attracted 79 entries, of whom 57 unique ones and 22 re-entries. The tournament took place over three days at the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room at the City of Dreams integrated resort.

The participants created a prize pool of HK$60,690,960, which was distributed to the top 11 finishers. Popular poker pros such as Christian Christner from Germany, Jason Koon and Bryn Kenney from the US, and Daniel Dvoress from Canada were among those to cash from the tournament.

The final day of the tournament welcomed the nine finalists to be seated at the final table. Canadian poker pro Timothy Adams led the remaining survivors with 146.9 million in chips. He was followed by Kenney with 104 million and Fast, who held 97.3 million at the time cards were thrown in the air for a final day of action.

Adams and Fast retained their momentum over the course of the final table, and O’Dwyer, who had poorer start of the day than the aforementioned two players, also gained quite a bit of momentum to make it through the closing stages of the game.

A dangerous all-in confrontation eventually saw Adams exit in third place and leave Fast and O’Dwyer to battle for the title and the attractive first-place prize.

The Heads-Up Match

Two-handed battle lasted no more than half an hour. It began with Fast holding 529 million worth in chips to O’Dwyer’s stack of 102.4 million. O’Dwyer managed to double once over the course of the short duel, but apart from that, he did not manage to improve very much.

The final hand of the tournament occurred with Fast limping from the small blind pre-flop, and O’Dwyer raising to 20 million. Fast called and the two players saw the [9d][As][8h] land on the board. O’Dwyer bet 13 million and Fast raised to 40 million. O’Dwyer called.

The [3c] on the turn was then checked by the two players. The [Jc] finally appeared on the river and O’Dwyer shoved for nearly 130 million. Fast snap-called showing [Ad][8c]. O’Dwyer turned a weaker hand comprised of [9s][3d] that sent him to the rail in second place. The player collected a consolation price of HK$11,865,000.

Fast’s victory secured him his largest in-the-money finish in a live tournament. The player came into the Super High Roller fresh from the recently completed Triton Super High Roller Macau Main Event, in which the player took 5th place for HK$4,607,000 ($590,016). Including his latest cash, the German poker pro now has more than $6.2 million in live tournament earnings.
