Galaxy has become the lead sponsor of the EUROJAPAN CUP 2019 to boost its bid for a Japanese casino license
Macau casino and hospitality operator Galaxy Entertainment Group is looking to secure greater brand exposure across Japan with a recently penned sponsorship deal for a brand-new premium sporting event.
In a statement from earlier today, the company announced that it has signed a two-year sponsorship for the EUROJAPAN CUP 2019. With Galaxy becoming the event’s lead sponsor, its official name will actually be Galaxy Entertainment EUROJAPAN CUP 2019, the company pointed out.
The inaugural edition of the event will take place on July 27 and will see Premier League football club Manchester City F.C. head to the Japanese city of Yokohama to play against the local Yokohama F. Marinos. The exhibition match, as it was dubbed in today’s release, will take place at the city’s Nissan Stadium.
The Galaxy Entertainment EUROJAPAN CUP is organized by the Japan Football Association, the Japan Professional Football League, Nippon Television Network, and music hall owner Zepp Live. The 2020 edition of the cup will be held in Osaka, it also become known, and will again involve a prominent European football club facing a J-League football team.
In today’s statement, Galaxy said that it will also carry out a number of sports-related initiatives across Japan, including football clinics led by top football players and other outreach events.
Galaxy Boosts Bid for Japanese Casino License
Just like a multitude of top-tier global casino operators, Galaxy is exploring opportunities to enter Japan’s nascent casino market. The nation legalized casino gambling in late 2016 and set out the necessary rules and principles under which the sector would be regulated last summer.
The next steps in the formation of Japan’s casino industry involve selecting the preferred locations for up to three integrated resorts with gaming floors and the preferred developers and operators of the properties.
In 2015, Galaxy joined forces with Monaco casino operator Société des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Étrangers à Monaco (SBM) to explore together opportunities for expansion into Japan. The two companies will face tough competition from the likes of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Hard Rock International, Genting Group, and Las Vegas giants MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment Corp., and Las Vegas Sands that are all vying for one of the three available casino licenses.
Galaxy currently operates the luxury Galaxy Macau as well as Star World Hotel and multiple gaming clubs across the world’s largest gambling hub, Macau.
