Online casino content provider Greentube, a division of NOVOMATIC Interactive, has extended its Swedish footprint through a recently announced deal with the online gambling business of state-owned operator Svenska Spel.
As a result from the latest of a series of commercial deals signed by Greentube in recent weeks, the company’s classic land-based games, which have been adapted for the digital gaming channel, such as hit title Book of Ra deluxe and Lucky Lady’s Charm deluxe are now live with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino.
The operator and its customers have also gained access to Greentube’s online-only slot titles, including The Great Gambini’s Night Magic and Tidal Riches. The integration of the major supplier’s content with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino was realized through the NYX OGS platform, it also became known.
Up until January 1, 2019, Svenska Spel was the only gambling operator authorized to conduct casino gaming activities on the territory of Sweden. With the reorganization of the Swedish online gambling market, a number of international operators obtained licenses to tap into one of Europe’s most lucrative markets.
Due to the increased competition in Sweden’s regulated iGaming space, Svenska Spel has been looking to enhance its online offering with the addition of content by major industry providers.
As for Greentube, Sweden has not been the only newly reorganized market it has been able to enter this year. Earlier this month, the company announced that its content has gone live in Switzerland, where a new gambling law took effect in January and the first online casinos under that new law went live in July.
Pivotal to Localized Market Strategy
Commenting on their content going live with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, Greentube UK Commercial Director David Bolas said that the move was “pivotal to our localized market strategy in Sweden” and that they believe their titles will “greatly enhance” the operator’s already available portfolio.
Svenska Spel Sport & Casino VP Product Casino Jonas Nygren added that “Greentube has really strong titles in their portfolio that will strengthen our mix of already published games” and that their customer base “has been extremely engaged with their catalogue of games.”
Svenska Spel said last week that it has recorded a decline in its third-quarter gaming revenue due to increased competition and regulation in Sweden’s newly reorganized market. The company reported net gaming revenue of SEK2.01 billion for the quarter ended September 30, 2019, down 5.2% year-on-year.
The company’s CEO, Patrik Hofbauer, said that “even though we have stabilized Svenska Spel’s operations after the changes […] the result is not yet at the level we are striving for.”
The efforts discussed by the executive include the nationwide self-exclusion system that was launched early this year and the mandatory deposit limits. Yet, Mr. Hofbauer said that even though these have a negative impact on revenue, they are positive changes because they protect gambling customers and help licensed operators build a “long-term sustainable industry through sound revenue.”
