Special zero rules can change how an eligible even-money roulette bet is settled. They normally concern red or black, odd or even, and low or high. Read the actual table rules before betting. On a single-zero table offering la partage, zero returns half of an eligible stake immediately. For a ten-dollar bet on red, five dollars comes back and five dollars is lost. Under ordinary full-loss rules, all ten dollars would be lost. On a double-zero table offering surrender on both zero and double zero, the same half-back treatment applies to either zero outcome. Do not assume every double-zero table offers it. En prison is different. An eligible stake can be held after zero instead of immediately losing. For an imprisoned ten-dollar bet on red, a subsequent qualifying red result releases the original ten dollars without profit; a losing black result forfeits it. Check how another zero is treated, because repeated-zero rules vary. These rules do not normally protect dozens, columns or inside bets. A half-back rule reduces the expected loss on eligible bets; it does not make your chosen colour more likely to win. Check which bets qualify, which zero outcomes trigger the rule, and how held bets are settled. Only wager what you can afford to lose.
