Before you place a roulette bet, check the wheel. Two tables can look similar while giving you different chances. A standard single-zero wheel has thirty-seven pockets: the numbers one to thirty-six, plus zero. A standard double-zero wheel adds double zero, making thirty-eight pockets. The extra pocket matters even when the payout stays the same. For a straight-up bet on one number, a standard payout is thirty-five to one. A winning one-dollar bet earns thirty-five dollars in profit, with the original dollar also returned. On a fair single-zero wheel, the chance of that number is one in thirty-seven. On a fair double-zero wheel, it is one in thirty-eight. That gives the standard straight-up bet a house edge of about two point seven zero percent with one zero, and five point two six percent with two. These are long-run averages, not a prediction of what you will lose in one session. The wheel's pocket order is different from the numbered betting grid. Check the actual wheel and rules instead of relying only on a game name. Extra-zero and special-payout variants also exist. Past results do not make a number due on an independent spin. Know the wheel, check the payout, and set your spending limit before you play.
