Chain Mail

CND illustrated guide explaining a guide

Chain Mail is Microgaming’s five-reel, 20-payline video slot with a playful medieval-fair theme. Its reels mix royal characters with fast-food symbols, while the Castle Bonus sends the player through a grid of doors. This guide covers the older coin-based edition pictured below.

Chain Mail screenshots

Historical Microgaming imagery from our sister site KeyToCasinos, Chain Mail entry. These three screens were visually checked on 7 October 2026. They document the pictured edition rather than current casino availability.

How the original Chain Mail works

The original interface separates the coin value, selected lines and coins per line. Its pictured 20-line selection uses five coins per line at a coin value of 0.02: 20 × 5 × 0.02 = 2.00 per spin. The earlier review’s euro minimum and maximum stakes have not been verified for a current edition.

Ordinary line wins run from left to right, with only the highest award paid on each selected line. Mailbags are scatters and can pay without forming a line. Their awards are added to payline wins.

The Chain Mail logo is the wild. In this paytable it substitutes for ordinary symbols, excluding scatter and bonus symbols, and doubles a win when substituting. Its own five-symbol award is listed as 6,000, multiplied by the coins staked per line. This is not a 6,000-times-full-spin award.

Rules and payout examples

These examples use the original reel screenshot’s 0.02 coin value, five coins per line and 20 selected lines. One line therefore costs 0.10 and the full spin costs 2.00. Values below are gross returns in the same monetary units as the stake; subtract the spin cost from all returns to calculate net profit.

Selected awards in the historical Chain Mail edition
OutcomeAward basisExample return
Three princess symbols on a line20 × line stake2.00
Five princess symbols on a line800 × line stake80.00
Five Chain Mail wilds on a line6,000 × line stake600.00
Three mailbag scatters2 × total bet4.00
Four mailbag scatters20 × total bet40.00
Five mailbag scatters100 × total bet200.00

Scatter multipliers apply to their own award. They do not multiply every other win on the spin. The wild’s doubling rule is described for substitution; it should not be applied again to the displayed five-wild award.

Castle Bonus

Castle Bonus symbols scattered on reels one, three and five trigger the feature. The help shows a seven-door-wide grid with five rows. Selecting doors reveals prizes or characters: Princess Roxy awards all values in the row, while Uncle Mordread ends the bonus game.

Bonus wins are added to payline wins. The historical help says that values shown during the bonus have already been multiplied by the number of coins per line and the number of lines bet. Do not apply those factors a second time to the displayed bonus result.

Edition differences and availability

The sister-site gallery also contains a different, purple paytable interface with different displayed awards. Its figures should not be combined with this older coin-based paytable. Likewise, a catalog’s free-spin count does not establish a free-spin trigger for the historical Castle Bonus edition described here.

No current RTP, stake range or casino availability has been verified for this exact edition. Check the rules in the game actually offered to you. The casino listings on this page do not confirm that an operator currently provides Chain Mail, or that it is accessible from your location.

Frequently asked questions

Who made the original Chain Mail?

The sister-site catalog identifies the game as Microgaming. The screenshots used here match the original 20-line, coin-based medieval slot.

What does a spin cost in the screenshot?

The reel screen shows 20 lines, five coins per line and a 0.02 coin value, producing a total stake of 2.00. This is an example selection, not a verified minimum bet.

Do five wilds pay 6,000 times the total bet?

No. The original paytable applies that award to the line stake. With 20 equal lines, the example 6,000-times-line-stake award equals 300 times the full spin cost.

How do mailbag scatters pay?

In the pictured edition, three, four and five mailbags pay 2, 20 and 100 times the total bet respectively. Scatter awards are added to line wins.

What triggers the Castle Bonus?

Bonus symbols on reels one, three and five trigger it. Princess Roxy awards every value in a row, while Uncle Mordread ends the feature.

Can I use the newer paytable with these examples?

No. The gallery contains different interfaces and displayed awards. These calculations use only the original coin-based screens; consult the exact edition’s own rules.
