Explore Microgaming gamesLife’s a Beach is a historical five-reel, 20-line slot from Microgaming. Its original desktop edition combines a substituting wild, lifeguard scatters and an umbrella-selection bonus. The game screens reproduced in Games and Casino’s gallery provide the rules and paytable used below. The directory now groups the title under Games Global; this does not establish current casino availability.

Paylines, coins and the total stake
The original rules allow 1 to 20 active lines. A line win is multiplied by the credits staked on that line, while a scatter win is multiplied by all credits staked on the spin. Only the highest win on each selected line pays, but awards on different lines are added. Scatters pay regardless of the lines selected and are added to line wins.
The pictured controls show 20 lines, 20 coins per line and a 0.50 denomination. That is 400 coins, or 200 cash units, per spin. The 20 coins-per-line setting is not a total bet of 20 coins. Line combinations pay left to right; lifeguard scatters can pay anywhere.
Verified symbol paytable

Ordinary rows below are multiples of the line stake. The final scatter row uses the total spin stake instead. A dash means no award is listed for that symbol count.
| Symbol | Two | Three | Four | Five |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9 or 10, matching symbols | — | 5 | 20 | 100 |
| J or Q, matching symbols | — | 10 | 25 | 150 |
| K or A, matching symbols | — | 15 | 50 | 300 |
| Radio or goggles, matching symbols | — | 20 | 100 | 500 |
| Parasol | 5 | 25 | 200 | 1,000 |
| Beach bar | 5 | 50 | 1,000 | 12,000 |
| Lifeguard scatter: total-stake multiplier | 2 | 5 | 10 | 150 |
The paired symbols in a row share the same awards; they are not permission to mix different symbols. The woman wild appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and substitutes for ordinary symbols, excluding the lifeguard. No separate all-wild award is shown.
Payout examples with the correct units
For an illustrative 20-line spin at one coin per line and a denomination of 0.01, the total stake is 0.20 units. Five beach bars on one active line pay 12,000 × 0.01 = 120 units gross. With no other awards, the net gain is 119.80 units. This single-line return is 600 times the total 20-line stake, not 12,000 times that total stake.
At the same settings, three lifeguard scatters pay 5 × 0.20 = 1.00 unit and trigger the bonus. The scatter component alone is 0.80 units above the paid stake; line and bonus awards, if applicable, are additional. The line-stake and total-stake multipliers must not be interchanged.
Four umbrella selections

Three or more lifeguards start the bonus. Six umbrellas appear and the player chooses four. Revealing the woman awards a random prize. The rules specify a consolation prize of twice the triggering bet when a selection does not reveal her. That wording applies to a selection, rather than only to an entire round in which all four choices miss.
All bonus prizes are scaled by the triggering bet, and the bonus total is added to the line and scatter awards. In the 0.20-unit example, a 2x consolation payment is 0.40 units. It is an award within the bonus, not evidence that the whole playing session is profitable. The pictured rules describe a selection bonus, not a free-spin round.
Frequently asked questions
Do two nines pay?
No two-symbol award is listed for nines in the original paytable. Three matching nines pay five times the line stake.
Is the radio missing from the paytable?
No. It shares the goggles’ awards: 20, 100 and 500 times the line stake for three, four and five matching symbols.
Can the wild land on the first reel?
The original rule restricts it to reels 2, 3 and 4. It cannot replace a lifeguard scatter.
Does the 12,000 figure mean a cash jackpot?
It is the five-bar line multiplier. Its cash value depends on the stake on that line; the screen does not identify it as a progressive prize.
Is an exact RTP verified here?
No RTP appears in these original rules or paytable images. A historical directory figure should not be treated as verification of every edition or current configuration.
