Explore Microgaming gamesRhyming Reels: Old King Cole is a historical Microgaming five-reel slot with 20 paylines. This page covers the desktop edition shown in the LCB game archive. Its nursery-rhyme theme uses a king, musicians, a pipe, a bowl and a gold record. The preserved screens document that edition; they do not confirm current casino availability.

Lines, coins and the full spin cost
The reel screen shows 20 lines, 10 coins and a coin value of 0.05, with a total bet of 10.00. Here the coins setting applies to each active line: 20 × 10 × 0.05 = 10 account units. It does not mean ten coins across the entire spin. The separate paytable screen uses value 0.50 with the same lines and coins, producing a 100.00-unit stake.

Verified line-award examples
The pictured rules say that line wins pay left to right, only the highest win is paid per selected line, and scatters are the exception to the line requirement. The following entries are transcribed from the visible paytable page. They are not a complete symbol table.
| Symbol | Two | Three | Four | Five |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| King | 3 | 25 | 100 | 900 |
| Musicians | Not shown | 20 | 75 | 800 |
| Pipe | Not shown | 15 | 50 | 700 |
| Bowl | Not shown | 10 | 40 | 500 |
For example, five kings on one selected line pay 900 × 10 = 9,000 coins at the illustrated ten-coins setting. With coin value 0.05, that is 450 account units. Against the full 10-unit spin cost, this single-line result would be a 45-times gross return and a 440-unit net gain, assuming no other awards. It is not 900 times the full spin stake. At value 0.50 the corresponding amounts scale to 4,500 returned against a 100-unit stake.
Free spins and wild symbols
The LCB description of this historical edition records 12 free spins for three or more crown scatters, a multiplier of up to seven, and an additional gold-record wild during the feature. It also describes retriggers. The screenshots reproduced here do not show the complete feature-help page, so they do not establish the multiplier-selection procedure, retrigger limits or every substitution exception. Check the exact game’s help before applying those details to another edition.
Understanding the optional gamble
The third screen offers colour and suit choices for an existing 385.00-unit win. The displayed colour return is 770.00, twice that amount; the suit return is 1,540.00, four times it. These figures include the amount put at risk. Relative to collecting 385.00, a successful colour choice adds 385.00 and a successful suit choice adds 1,155.00. An incorrect choice loses the amount gambled. Collect is the alternative to risking the win; gamble is not a guaranteed increase.
Edition limits and unavailable figures
These are historical practice-mode images, not evidence of a current real-money session. The two pictured coin values demonstrate particular settings, not a universal minimum or maximum. A single-symbol paytable page cannot establish an overall maximum win. No independently verified edition-specific RTP is established here, so the previous 96% RTP and 4% house-edge statements are not retained as confirmed figures.
Old King Cole questions
Who made this version?
The historical desktop game is attributed to Microgaming in the LCB review. A current catalogue label alone does not identify an identical playable build.
Does the ten-coins setting cover all 20 lines?
No. It is ten coins per selected line. With all 20 lines active the spin uses 200 coins.
How much do five kings pay?
The visible table shows 900 before multiplying by coins per line. At ten coins per line that is 9,000 coins, which must then be converted using the chosen coin value.
Are the two pictured stake amounts contradictory?
No. The reel screen uses value 0.05 and the paytable uses 0.50. Both show 20 lines and ten coins per line.
Must I gamble a winning payout?
No. The gamble screen also offers Collect. A wrong colour or suit guess can lose the amount risked.
Do these screenshots prove present availability or RTP?
No. They document historical controls and selected rules, not today’s operator access or an independently verified RTP configuration.
