Sterling Silver SlotMicrogaming is one of those slot developers that always strive to deliver original and innovative content, especially when it comes to slots. The casino software supplier has once again succeeded in delivering a one-of-a-kind slot in the form of its Sterling Silver offering. There are five reels, three rows and 25 paylines you can win on, along with wilds, scatters, and multipliers on the profits. So what is new here?

The unique thing about Microgaming’s Sterling Silver is that it is available in both 2D and 3D formats. In fact, this is the first thing that grabs the attention when the game loads as the symbols on the reels appear all blurry unless of course, you are not wearing red and blue 3D glasses, in which case the visuals will impress you with greater depth. If you do not have one such pair of glasses, you can easily switch to 2D and play the slot in the regular mode.

Other than that, Sterling Silver falls into the category of online slots inspired by precious metals. We all have seen and played games based on gold and platinum. Here the developers have decided to pay tribute to the third precious substance, silver. The layout and the symbols do appear a bit simplistic.

The transparent reels spin against a uniform black background and the high-paying symbols include silver sterling coins and… silver bullions. This is pretty much all you can expect apart from the standard low payers with cards Nine through Ace. If interested in spinning the reels of this innovative slot, you can do so for as little as $0.25. Maximum bets amount to $31.25.

Special Symbols

Sterling Silver offers two special symbols, much like the majority of video slots from the collection of the leading software developer. One of the main attractions of the game is the scattered coin with the Sterling Silver logo superimposed on top above some silver bullions. First of all, this symbol awards scattered pays as the matching icons are not required to land on a payline to return a payout. But the biggest advantage the symbol can offer is that three scattered coins landing simultaneously anywhere on reels 2, 3 and 4 return 10x the total bet and activate the round of free spins.

There is also a wild symbol in Sterling Silver, which contains the game’s logo. The wild logo substitutes for all other icons but the scatter and stacks on the third reel to increase your chances of turning a profit. Thankfully, the wild is not restricted to the third reel only. It can appear on all five reels as a substitute but apart from that it randomly awards multiplier values on the wins it creates. The multipliers you can receive range from 2x to 10x the amount you have won with the substituting wild.

Bonus Games and Features

Sterling Silver is pretty much a standard video slot, when you play in 2D mode. The only bonus feature the game is equipped with is the usual round of free spins. You can activate it by landing three scattered coin symbols on qualifying reels number 2, 3 and 4 at the same time. When this happens, you not only get access to the free spins but are awarded a payout that amounts to 10x your overall bet.

The three scatters will earn you a total of 15 spins at no charge. There are several advantages to this bonus feature apart from the free spins you receive. First off, there is the possibility to retrigger more spins in batches of 15, provided that you land the same combination of scatters you have initiated the first round with. And second, all winnings you accrue for the duration of your bonus spins will be boosted with a random multiplier. The minimum multiplier you can receive on wins is 2x the amount won.

There is no bonus side game which is disappointing since one would expect more from such an innovative slot. There is the option to risk your profits on winning spins by making use of the Gamble functionality. This is not always such a great idea as you may end up losing what you have initially won, but you know what they say about taking risks – if you win, you will be happy; if you lose, you will be wiser.

The Gamble button is active only following a win and grants you access to a mini game which involves guessing the suit or the color of a playing card. Since the probability of guessing the card’s suit is 1 out of 4, if your prediction is correct, your winnings on the last spin will be quadrupled. Guess the right color, red or black, and you receive double the amount you have originally won.

Despite the lack of a bonus game, Sterling Silver is still an appealing and interesting slot to play. The main attraction here is, of course, the possibility to switch from the standard 2D view to 3D mode. Those who lack a pair of 3D glasses can play the game in 2D by clicking the respective button in the upper right corner of the screen. There are wilds with decent multipliers on the wins they create as well as a scatter which leads to 15 spins at no charge.

There are several downsides to Sterling Silver, though. The layout and the symbols in use are far from spectacular. The dark color palette and the industrial vibes the slot gives off may be a bit depressing to some players. There are more low-paying than high-paying symbols which impacts the winning potential of the game negatively. That being said, if you are ready and willing to try something fresh and innovative, Microgaming’s Sterling Silver may be just the type of slot for you to check out.
