What on Earth SlotWhat on Earth is an amusing, unconventional video slot with 5 reels and 9 paylines which has a funny alien theme. Developed by leading software provider Microgaming, the slot comes with an interesting storyline, lovely graphics, and a great bonus game where winnings reach 400 times the total bet.

Most casino players have probably noticed that science fiction slot games tend to be odd, but What on Earth is untraditional in a variety of aspects. Its plot focuses on aliens abducting humans from the Earth, but the attitude is very positive and light-hearted. It is brightly colored, while the open space serves as a background to the fast-moving reels where fruit-looking planets appear. The graphics are a bit dated, which creates a nice retro feel to the futuristic theme. In terms of bonus games and extra features, however, Microgaming’s What on Earth slot offers really interesting options – there are 3 distinct Scatter symbols, Wild icons, and a side game which has 3 levels.

Unlike most modern titles in the science fiction genre, What on Earth has just 9 paylines and players can activate as many as they wish. They can also bet from 1 to 5 coins on each line and choose a coin value between 0.01 and 1.00 credits. Each spin will, therefore, cost at least 0.01 credits, while the maximum bet per spin is 45 credits.

Special Symbols

All icons on the reels are in bright colors and include funny fruits. The fruit symbols are depicted in such a manner so that they resemble planets and other celestial bodies – cherry comet, an orange which looks like the sun, a plum-like Saturn, and a melon which resembles a random planet. There is also a glowing green asteroid, as well as two exciting symbols which pay even if only 1 of them appears on an active payline. These are a mission control panel and an alien creature peeking through the porthole of its spaceship.

The Wild symbol in the game is the logo which substitutes only for the high-value control panel and alien icons. The logo is top paying image paying the jackpot of 7,500 coins for getting 5 Wilds on an active payline. The Scatter symbols are three and just like the Wild, they function in quite a strange way. They are represented by images of a blue space shuttle, a green flying saucer and a red rocket. These spaceships pay when at least 3 of each kind appear on adjacent reels. The saucer and the shuttle icons appear only on reels 3, 4, and 5, so they form combos of only 3 symbols. The red rocket, on the other hand, can be displayed on all reels. All three Scatter symbols can trigger the bonus round.

Bonus Games and Features

The slot offers an excellent side game which has 3 stages and can be activated in three different ways, or with three different symbols, to be exact. This is the Beam ‘em Up Bonus and it triggers whenever 3 or more rockets land on adjacent reels. Alternatively, it can be activated when either 3 shuttles or 3 flying saucers appear on reels 3, 4, and 5.

In each of those occasions, a second screen opens and we can see 5 aliens floating in their spacecraft over the city. Players need to choose one of the extraterrestrials who will abduct earthlings. The alien beams up one of 13 different characters and items such as flower pots, teddy bears, babies, police offers, and dogs. Each of those reveals a different multiplier between 3x and 200x. The shower lady is the most lucrative symbol, bringing a 400x multiplier.

However, you can also beam up two symbols that unlock the other stages of the side game. The first is the contest invitation symbol, which activates the Beam ‘em Up Contest. Once again, you have to choose an alien, but this time you have a fixed time limit to beam up earthlings. The more you abduct, the higher the multiplier.

The other level which can open is the Destination Bonus which triggers if your alien beams up the globe in the first game screen. In this bonus, players need to choose a more populated area of the world and abduct a prominent person to receive a multiplier of up to 400x. The options are the Queen in London, the mummy in Cairo, the Statue of Liberty in New York, or a Tokyo nobleman.

Microgaming’s What on Earth is a marvelous video slot which can keep you entertained for quite a while with its bonus games, which are not just amusing, but also very lucrative. Of course, the best way to earn good winnings is to trigger the Beam ‘em Up Bonus and the following games as many times as you can. Even if you are not lucky enough to get 3 adjacent Scatters, however, you have an opportunity to win the jackpot of 7,500 coins for landing 5 Wild logos on an active payline.

This slot has nice graphics and soundtrack, which is certainly an advantage at a time when hundreds and even thousands of similar games are available in online casinos. The relatively low betting range (between 0.01 and 45.00 credits per spin) would be convenient for most players, with the exception of those who prefer playing with extra high stakes.
