Jacks or Better Multi-HandAs one of the largest providers of online casino software, Playtech has a fantastic selection of video poker variations and one of them is Jacks or Better Multi-Hand. Based on the classic Jacks or Better game, this version offers players simplicity, but also the excitement of betting on up to a hundred hands simultaneously. Playtech’s Jacks or Better can be found in a large number of online casinos that provide the popular software platform of the studio.

The game has a beautiful interface, which is a nice change from the hundreds of video poker variations featuring rather basic graphics. Playtech’s release is much more colorful and is very user-friendly, offering players plenty of options for customization. It follows the traditional rules of 5-card draw poker known as Jacks or Better, but it also allows players to place bets on multiple hands at a time, up to 100, to be precise. Although this raises the adrenaline while playing, it means that for each round, the stakes are much higher than what you would risk in a typical, single-hand video poker.

The game can be played with 1, 4, 10, 25, 50, and 100 hands and players can wager up to 5 coins. The coin denominations range from 0.01 to 10.00 credits in the currency you play in, but note that this amount depends on the number of hands you play with. This means that the maximum bet for a single-hand play is 50 credits, while for 100 hands, you can wager up to 1,250 credits each round.

Gaming Experience

Jacks or Better Multi-Hand has a simple layout displaying the full pay table in single-hand play, along with the five cards you are dealt. When you choose multi-play, on top of your cards will appear the additional number of hands and you will see a shorter version of the pay table in the bottom left corner of the screen. The number of coins wagered, the coin denomination, and the Deal button are positioned below the cards you are dealt, together with the Bet Max and Gamble Button.

The game is played just like traditional Jacks or Better and the objective is to obtain a five-card hand that contains the best possible winning combination. In multi-hand mode, each hand is dealt from its own deck of 52 cards. There are two draws in a round – in the first, you receive 5 cards and you need to choose which to discard and which to hold. In the second draw, some of your cards are replaced by new ones and the computer determines whether a winning combination is formed or not. When a winning occurs, it will be shown on the left side of the screen, so you will be able to see the winning hand and its respective payout.

Specific Features

The opportunity to bet on multiple hands simultaneously is the most obvious extra feature in this version of video poker. Players can choose the number of hands before each round and once they do, the respective number of boxes (4, 10, 25, 25 or 100) of cards are displayed in top half of the screen. When you pick one or more cards to hold from the 5 cards you are dealt initially, they also appear at the same positions in the upper boxes. Once you click the Draw button, new cards replace the discarded ones in all hands you play with and winning combinations may be formed.

Although the winning hands in this game are ranked the same way as in classic Jacks or Better, the payouts are slightly different. In the traditional full-pay versions of video poker, the Full House and Flush hands usually pay off 9 and 6 times the size of the bet, respectively. In Jacks or Better Multi-Hand, however, these hands pay 8 and 5 times the size of the bet. Players should consider this fact as it slightly reduces the expected return of the game.

This version of video poker also features a Double feature after a winning hand. It allows players to gamble the payout they have received in a bonus round. You are presented with one face-up card and four face-down cards. In order to win and double your winnings, you need to pick a card out of the four, which has a higher value than the face-up card. You can double up until the current winnings reach the Double Up limit of 40 credits.

Playtech’s Jacks or Better Multi-Hand is a visually appealing and an entertaining online game, which can be played in-browser or downloaded as part of Playtech’s casino software. As it follows the standard rules of the classic Jacks or Better, it is recommended even for beginner players as long as they bet on one hand only. The multi-hand mode, however, is a wonderful option for more experienced players who are able to employ the right strategy and willing to play with higher stakes. It is also important to always bet the maximum of 5 coins, as the payouts in this case are disproportionately higher and reach 4,000 coins multiplied by the bet for a Royal Flush hand.

If played with perfect strategy, Playtech’s Jacks or Better Multi-Hand offers a theoretical Return to Player percentage of 96.06%. The returns increase to 97.30% when the game is played with the maximum number of coins.
