The Invisible Man SlotLaunched in 2014 by software developer NetEnt, The Invisible Man is a 5-reel, 20-line video slot which comes with a dark, sinister theme and plenty of bonus features and surprises for casino players. There are two Wild symbols, free spins, bonus games and an exciting re-spin mode which triggers quite regularly.

The slot is based on the classic 1933 movie The Invisible Man, an adaptation of the famous 1897 novel of the same name by H. G. Wells. NetEnt has created it in cooperation with Universal Studios, depicting the original story with all the main characters, including the Invisible Man himself (or Dr. Jack Griffin), Flora Cranley, and Arthur Kemp. The game takes place in Griffin’s scientific laboratory and the reels are surrounded by measuring flasks, jars, and test tubes. Chemical fumes fill the dark lab and strange potions are being prepared. The graphics are crisp and beautifully created, there are lovely animations and all this is done in an elegant Art Deco style.

On the standard 5×3 reel grid, combinations are formed on 20 fixed paylines not only from left to right as in most slot games but in both directions. Players can wager up to 10 coins in denominations ranging from 0.01 to 0.50 credits. The allowed bets are from 0.20 credits to a maximum of 100.00 credits per spin.

Special Symbols

The pay table starts with the low-value playing cards from Ten to Ace, which create combinations of at least 3 identical symbols falling on a payline from the leftmost or the rightmost reel. Indeed, combinations pay in both directions in this game, which is a wonderful news for slot players. The higher-paying icons include characters from the movie – the innkeeper Mr. Hall and his wife Mrs. Hall, Griffin’s employer Dr. Cranley, as well as his colleague Arthur Kemp. The highest paying symbol is the image of Griffin’s fiancée, Flora Cranley. The payout for 5 symbols of this kind on a line is 500 coins.

There are two Wild icons in this slot, the policeman and the Invisible Man, both replacing all basic symbols in winning combinations. But these are no regular Wild substitutes. The policeman appears on reel 1 and moves one position to the right in four free re-spins, collecting any wins that may occur. The Invisible Man, on the other hand, lands on reel 5 and moves in the opposite direction, awarding another 4 free re-spins. The re-spins continue until the Wilds fall off the sides of the reels.

Bonus Games and Features

The first interesting feature in this slot is the moving Wild symbols, already explained above. These are called Walking Wilds and they occur quite frequently, awarding players free re-spins and attractive payouts. There are even more exciting instances, however, when the Invisible Man and the policeman collide or merge together.

When the two Wilds merge together during the base game, they activate the free spins feature. Players receive 10 spins initially, during which the two Wild symbols can appear on all reels. If they merge once again, another 4 free spins are added to the number of spins already awarded. The maximum of free spins that can be won at the same time is 30.

During the free spins, two meters appear above the reels – a red Bonus Game meter and a blue Police Spins meter, corresponding to the two types of Wilds. When the Griffin Wild drops off the reels, it fills one position of its meter. Similarly, when the policeman Wild falls off the reels, it fills one position in the other meter. Each meter has 8 positions and when they are all filled, a bonus feature is awarded – either the Police Spins or the Griffin’s Rage bonus game.

When the Police Spins are activated, players receive 3 free spins with 5 random Wilds appearing in each of them. In the Griffin’s Rage game, players visit three different destinations – Lion’s Head Inn, The Mansion, and Ipping Station, where they pick from 5 items to reveal a prize. There are coin wins of different amounts, multipliers of 2x, 3x, or 4x, or the red police hat, which ends the bonus game.

NetEnt’s The Invisible Man slot can easily be described as one of the best science fiction and horror video slots ever released. But it would be wrong to confine it to those two genres, as the slot has stunning graphics, a fantastic storyline and a very interesting gameplay, quite different than almost anything created by NetEnt or any other software developer, for that matter. With its unique Walking Wilds feature, free spins and a nicely done side game, it should be able to satisfy even the most demanding casino players.

The game is rewarding with frequent wins and free spins that trigger on a relatively regular basis. When the Walking Wilds occur, they almost always result in more wins, which is what matters the most, after all. Apart from that, The Invisible Man has a really dramatic soundtrack that creates the authentic creepy, dark atmosphere of the first scary movies from the 1920’s and 1930’s. This excellent video slot is complete with average returns calculated at 96.30%.
